Fairy Godmother shoes

The Fairy Godmother's shoes that I worked on for Sterling College's production of Cinderella.

The original shoes were a dark plum color with almost a rose-gold heel. I was asked to make them a brighter purple accented with silver and glitter. As you can see in the first two pictures, I taped off the heels and the bottom of the shoes to keep them from getting covered in purple spray-paint. Since the heel had an intricate form where it attached to the actual shoe, I used an x-acto knife to carefully cut out around the design of the heel to properly cover it, yet still allow all of the shoe to be painted. I also covered the sole of the shoe in tape so that paint would not have the chance to stick or collect on the actress’ feet as she wore them. After I sprayed the shoes purple, I allowed them to dry and then I peeled the tape off of the heels and bottom of the shoes. Then I covered the body of the shoes in tape and again, had to cut out around the designs of the heels. I then spray-painted the heels and the bottom of the shoes silver. After those sections dried, I peel the tape off of the shoes and then used silver glitter-glue to add the glitter to the shoes and used more concentrated amounts to create the swirls on the shoes. I also wanted there to be some form of contrast on the body of the shoe, in terms of glitter, so I tried to make the toes have a higher volume of glitter and have it slowly disperse into less glitter as it got closer to the heel.

These shoes are featured in an article on the Theatre Kansas Facebook page.
